Julien Cooper

ABOUT

Dr Julien Cooper is an Assistant Professor in the Research Centre for History and Culture at United International College-Beijing Normal University, Zhuhai (China). His research focuses on the history of Nubia and the Egyptian periphery in the Pharaonic period, particularly the study of nomads in the Eastern Desert. He participates in fieldwork in Sudan and has recently directed a project in the Eastern Desert called the Atbai Survey Project. Julien graduated from Macquarie University (Sydney) and held Postdoctoral fellowships at Oxford (Nomadic Empires ERC) and Yale universities. His book Toponymy on the Periphery was published in 2020.
